The AIC(V) is empowered through its Constitution:
(i) To promote a better understanding of the social and economic importance of the Arts in Victoria to Federal, State and Local Government and their Agencies, to the Private Sector, and to the People of Victoria
(ii) To promote a better understanding of the needs and concerns of the Arts in Victoria to Federal, State and Local Government and their Agencies, to the Private Sector, and to the People of Victoria
(iii) To determine through consultation with Council Members the common interests of the Arts Industry in Victoria and to represent those common interests to Federal, State and Local Government and the their Agencies, to the Private Sector and to the People of Victoria
While these clauses relate primarily to campaigns, the Council’s full objectives can be viewed in the AICV Constitution.
The AIC(V) develops campaign priorities through staff research, advice from its membership and direction from the Board. Campaigns may be pursued via diverse avenues from major public campaigns, letter writing campaigns, to quiet diplomacy depending on the issue. Past campaigns include diverse issues such as opposition to the inclusion of culture in the Free Trade Agreement with the US, to lobbying for improvements in the small-medium arts sector.
The AIC(V) also lends support to industry campaigns in accordance with its Constitution.
