About us

The Arts Industry Council (Victoria) has a significant impact on policy, arts funding and program delivery by all all tiers of government in Victoria and Australia. It aims to remain a major force in leading the policy debate both within creative industries and to government.

Making submissions to the development of the National Cultural Policy, the Nugent Enquiry into Performing Arts, the Review of the Small to Medium Performing Arts Sector, the Contemporary Visual Arts and Crafts inquiry (Myer Report) and numerous others, the AICV has also been vocal in opposition to the inclusion of culture in the Free Trade Agreement with the USA through its submission to the Senate Committee and active on pertinent arts sector issues such as censorship and the need for adequately funded arts education.

Most recently, the AICV have run a number of successful campaigns in Victoria including End Sunsets for the Arts, resulting in the continuation of a number of highly valued Arts Victoria programs due to finish at the end of the 2010/11 financial year.

AIC(V) is also continuing to represent the sector at key briefings including those on the development of the National Cultural Policy and the roll out of the National Broadband Network.

Structure

AIC(V) is a non-profit incorporated association governed by a volunteer Board. The Board is drawn from financial members of AIC(V) and elected at Annual General Meetings.

AIC(V) relies on membership fees for its survival and receives no on-going operational funding support from government.

An Executive Director is contracted for the equivalent of one day a week to service the Board, while a one day a week Secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation.
